"trauma is not caused by the event itself, but rather develops by the failure of the body, mind, spirit and nervous system to process extreme adverse events"
Dr Peter. A. Levine
My Approach
I believe you are more than a label. You may have strengths you've never fully recognised. In my practice, I work with you to identify and nurture these strengths, rather than focusing solely on a checklist of symptoms. Together, we’ll explore the complex connection between your thoughts, feelings, and actions, shaped by both past and present experiences. This process takes time, and we move at a pace that suits your needs.

The first few sessions are exploratory. We combine conversation with active exercises that help you shift from mentally directing your body to truly listening to it. Slowing down and tuning in to your body’s natural rhythms is key to healing, as it allows for deeper processing. Each session’s structure is tailored to your unique needs.

For instance, some clients come to me feeling tense or overwhelmed—perhaps after a stressful day or a challenging experience. In these cases, we begin by focusing on calming the body and restoring balance. Others may arrive feeling hopeless, as if nothing is working, or as if they’re stuck in a cycle of despair. Conditions like Major Depressive Disorder often show up this way, with a sense that the body’s natural functions have shut down.

I work with clients to recognise and address not just symptoms, but also the underlying patterns contributing to emotional and physical distress. These patterns often stem from unresolved experiences stored in the nervous system. Without resolution, these "body memories" can react as if past events are happening all over again, triggering a flood of emotions and sensations.

As Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, a leading psychiatrist, says, "Being traumatised means continuing to organise your life as if the trauma were still going on—unchanged and immutable—as every new encounter or event is contaminated by the past." My role is to help you recognize how your body is working to protect you, signaling unresolved issues that need attention. When these responses are understood, validated, and resolved, the brain signals to the body that it no longer needs to stay in survival mode.

Understanding the mind-body connection is vital in learning tools to address symptoms and create lasting change. Though the idea that the mind and body are separate entities has persisted since the time of Descartes, modern science is increasingly recognizing the value of integrating both in the healing process. As a Christian, I also believe that spirituality plays an essential role in overall well-being. When we understand that we are uniquely designed and deeply loved by God, it brings peace and security, helping us face challenges both big and small.

I integrate evidence-based therapeutic approaches with biblical principles to offer practical pathways toward healing and wholeness. If you are ready to begin this journey, I invite you to reach out for an initial consultation.
